I’ve been working with words for the past fifteen years.
I gained diverse experience during in-house editorial and production roles with Australian publishers. During my time in-house, I had the pleasure of working with organisations like DFAT, the Lowy Institute and the Department of Premier and Cabinet. My skills were further extended through my role as Publishing Manager at the Australian Society of Authors. I was also the ASA's Program Manager, and had the wonderful job of running grant programs and awards for authors and picture book illustrators.
While based in Berlin for six years, I worked with the inspiring team at Curved House Kids, to co-author, develop, edit and project manage the Discovery Diaries, a STEM-literacy series designed to educate and empower primary-aged children. To create this series, I collaborated with STEM-experts from the UK Space Agency, the European European Space Agency and the Science and Technology Facilities Council. We have over 200,000 students enrolled in our programs, two of which were runners-up for the Arthur C. Clarke Award for Innovation in Education. Although I'm now based in Sydney, I continue to work with Curved House Kids. Our latest series - Think Like a Scientist - is currently in development.
As well as working on non-fiction titles, I'm Deputy Editor of Visual Verse, a monthly online anthology of art and words. Conceived by publisher Kristen Harrison and award-winning author Preti Taneja, Visual Verse has an international community of over 3000 members.
In addition to writing non-fiction books for children, I'm also an emerging children's novelist. My current work-in-progress - a middle grade novel - was awarded an Australian Society of Authors Mentorship and a Varuna Fellowship. This manuscript is heavily influenced by the Arteles Residency Program I attended in Finland. You can read about my time at Arteles here. For information about the books I've authored and co-authored, see Books. I'm also a regular writer for Blinkist.
I hold an MA in Writing for Children and Young Adults (Manchester Metropolitan University), a BA Communications (Writing and Contemporary Cultures) and a Graduate Certificate in Editing and Publishing, both from the University of Technology, Sydney. Feel free to contact me if you're interested in collaborating.
